Nexter and Texelis Set to Launch SERVAL’s Initial Production Waves

Nexter and Texelis, as part of the temporary consortium of companies (GME) light-VBMR (véhicule blindé multi-rôles) SERVAL, were informed on December 23, 2020, by the French Delegation for Armaments (DGA) regarding the initial production batches of the SERVAL agreement, which encompasses 364 vehicles. This announcement entails the delivery of the first 12 production vehicles in the first semester of 2022, followed by an additional 96 in the latter half.

The SERVAL is a 15-ton versatile armored vehicle that incorporates various devices typical of other SCORPION vehicles, particularly the electronic core, a turret remotely operated from the crew compartment, threat sensors, and the SCORPION Combat Information System (SICS), allowing it to integrate seamlessly into the SCORPION systems network. Utilizing a modular design, Nexter and Texelis have created three primary variants of this weapon system (patrol, intelligence and reconnaissance, and communication relay), each available in numerous configurations. Designed for deployment in combat zones, the SERVAL merges adaptability, operational mobility, and cargo capacity. It serves as the essential complement to the heavy multi-role armored vehicle GRIFFON (EBMR) and the armored reconnaissance and combat vehicle JAGUAR (EBRC), aimed at equipping the land task force’s armored middle segment. Furthermore, as part of an initiative launched by the gendarmerie to upgrade its fleet of armored vehicles, the GME provides a system based on the Serval that incorporates a motorized protection solution capable of functioning both in mainland France and overseas.

In spite of the challenges posed by the health crisis, Nexter and Texelis have successfully developed a highly protected and particularly agile combat vehicle within a very limited timeframe.

As they await the first deliveries, the qualification process for SERVAL continues, with around ten prototypes currently undergoing assessment tests.

Nexter and Texelis express their appreciation for this notification and commend the dedication of the GME SERVAL teams, who are relentlessly working to guarantee the satisfaction of end-users.
