Norway Secures Cutting-Edge Leopard 2 A7 Tanks: Rheinmetall Delivers Advanced Armaments and Cutting-Edge Technology!

Rheinmetall AG has secured a pivotal contract related to a crucial NATO main battle tank initiative. On 17 February 2023, the Norwegian procurement authority NDMA engaged Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) to furnish the Norwegian armed forces with 54 units of the latest iteration of the Leopard 2 main battle tank, the A7 NOR. There is an option for an additional 18 tanks.

As a subcontractor to KMW, the Düsseldorf-based technological firm Rheinmetall has been designated to provide essential components. These encompass, among other elements, the tank’s 120mm L55A1 main weaponry, fire control systems, and portions of the sensor technologies.

For Rheinmetall, the overall value of the contract amounts to €129 million. Should Norway choose to activate the option for more Leopard 2 tanks, the contract will be worth an extra €44 million.

The tank cannons, fire control systems, and sensors for the Leopard 2 will be delivered to KMW over an estimated four-year timeframe.

Upon finalization and commissioning of the tanks at KMW, the vehicles will be handed over to the Norwegian procurement authority NDMA.

This order emphasizes Rheinmetall’s unparalleled proficiency in the design and manufacturing of crucial components for combat vehicles. As a KMW subcontractor, Rheinmetall has previously participated in the supply of Leopard 2 A5, A6, and A7 main battle tanks prior to the Norwegian 2 NOR programme.
