Dulles, Virginia 4 August 2016 – Orbital ATK (NYSE: OA), a world-renowned entity in aerospace and defense technologies, revealed today that the firm has secured a $69 million agreement exercising a secondary option from the U.S. Government to manufacture artillery precision guidance kits (PGK) for the American armed forces. PGK-equipped projectiles enable battlefield leaders to utilize artillery with enhanced accuracy and significantly less chance of unintended harm to civilians and infrastructure.
PGK integrates guidance and fuze functionality for 155mm conventional artillery shells into a singular device. By simply substituting a standard fuze with Orbital ATK’s sophisticated guidance fuze, artillery projectiles can be accurately directed to within 30 meters of their intended target. This remarkable precision diminishes conventional artillery dispersion, which can often exceed 200 meters.

Orbital ATK recently completed an initial production batch of PGKs, which successfully navigated a series of nine distinct lot acceptance evaluations demonstrating PGK’s reliability to steer the projectile in-flight and execute all fuze operations accurately under severe environmental conditions.
The corporation has expanded its manufacturing capacity to facilitate full-rate production and is delivering on the inaugural full-rate contract that extends until 2018. With the endorsement of the $69 million secondary option, Orbital ATK will supply PGK fuzes until 2019.
PGK significantly enhances artillery precision through Orbital ATK’s innovative design, which features a fixed-canard guidance methodology with gun-tolerant electronics and a self-generating power source. PGK conducts all standard fuze operations while also incorporating a “fail-safe” option, preventing projectile detonation if it does not reach a close proximity to the target.
