Oshkosh Defense Unveils Rogue Fires in Epic U.S. Navy Exercise Showcase
Oshkosh Defense, a fully-owned branch of Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE: OSK), effectively showcased the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) based Remotely Operated Ground Unit for Expeditionary (ROGUE) Fires during the Sink at Sea Live Fire Training Exercises (SINKEX) in Hawaii. As part of this exhibit, a Navy Marine Expeditionary Ship Interdiction System (NMESIS) launcher, built on a ROGUE Fires chassis, successfully launched a Naval Strike Missile (NSM) and achieved a direct hit on a maritime target.
SINKEX is a segment of the U.S. Navy’s Large-Scale Exercise (LSE) 2021, a worldwide event where Sailors and Marines evaluate and confirm the operational concepts of the Navy and Marine Corps.
ROGUE Fires is an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) that utilizes the JLTV’s exceptional off-road capabilities and payload capacity along with Oshkosh’s state-of-the-art autonomous vehicle technologies to facilitate Ground-Based Anti-Ship Missile (GBASM) missions. The unmanned technologies connected with ROGUE Fires enable the vehicle to function in teleoperator or leader-follower modes, thereby safeguarding Warfighters from threats by completely removing them from the vehicle.
“ROGUE Fires was specifically designed and employs next-generation features from several established Oshkosh Defense vehicle platforms and technologies,” remarked Pat Williams, Vice President and General Manager of U.S. Army and Marine Corps Programs. “Similar to the JLTV, ROGUE Fires can be customized for the specific mission at hand. The adaptable design permits the incorporation of scalable weapon system payloads, providing combatant commanders with flexibility according to mission needs.”
Since obtaining the JLTV production contract in 2015, Oshkosh Defense has collaborated closely with top weapon system manufacturers to incorporate and test various weapon system payloads and degrees of firepower onto the JLTV platform.
“The successful LSE demonstration confirms the advanced status of ROGUE Fires as a weapons platform and underscores its capability to enhance the firepower and potential of the light tactical wheeled vehicle fleet,” Williams concluded.
