Thailand Opts for the Gripen E/F: A Bold Move Beyond the F-16

The Royal Thai Air Force has opted for the Swedish-manufactured Gripen E/F combat aircraft over the American F-16 in a recent evaluation. The Thai administration is convinced that the Gripen E/F is the optimal selection for safeguarding the nation’s security interests.

Although the Thai Air Force initially favored the Gripen, the government examined alternative proposals that offered more favorable financial conditions. Ultimately, they decided to remain with the Gripen E/F.

Thailand currently operates the earlier Gripen C and D variants and intends to acquire 12 new Gripen E/F fighter aircraft.

With this choice, Thailand becomes the third nation to utilize the Gripen E/F, following Sweden and Brazil.

The Gripen E/F is a state-of-the-art fighter aircraft recognized for its cutting-edge technology and extensive operational range. Nevertheless, it has encountered stiff competition from various combat jets in previous evaluations.
