Introducing the Revolutionary SHERPA A2M: A Collaborative Showcase by ARQUUS, THALES, and NTGS at Eurosatory 2022!

On June 14th, 2022, Arquus, Thales, and NTGS officially unveiled the cutting-edge Sherpa A2M (Advanced Mobile Mortar) during a ceremony held at Arquus’ booth at Eurosatory 2022.

The Sherpa A2M offers an effective solution to the tactical obstacles posed by artillery in high-intensity combat: enhanced mobility, robust protection, close support for ground forces, and mobile counter-battery capabilities at a fraction of the cost of a Self-Propelled Gun (SPG).

The collaboration among Arquus, NTGS, and Thales facilitates the deployment of a comprehensive solution offering a distinctive indirect fire support option, ideal for infantry backing, joint military operations, and Special Forces, alongside autonomous artillery units demanding exceptional mobility and protection.

Integrating the outstanding mobility of a Sherpa Light, the reliable Deployable Mortar System from NTGS, and the 120mm rifled mortar barrel engineered by Thales, the Sherpa A2M presents a fully integrated new solution.

Thanks to Thales’ technological advancements, the vehicle accommodates 120 mm rifled ammunition, with future integration of laser-guided mortar rounds. The rifled mortar barrel boasts accuracy three times superior to that of smoothbore mortar systems. This enhanced precision allows it to achieve similar operational outcomes with significantly fewer rounds—approximately four times fewer than required for a smoothbore mortar.

NTGS contributes its expertise in comprehensive systems by providing the advanced fire control system at the rear of the vehicle. This system transmits vital information regarding targets and points of interest, translating into a considerable strategic advantage. With their proficiency, the A2M Sherpa ensures command over all mission operations and has already been validated in combat. The mortar and tube from NTGS and Thales have been certified by NATO and various international armed forces.

The Sherpa Light is a versatile, 4×4 armored vehicle crafted by Arquus, designed to offer an extensive range of configurations and customizations to meet diverse mission requirements, constructed on a single, proven platform for enhanced commonality and maintenance ease. It’s a state-of-the-art, mature vehicle built on years of industrial know-how, operational battlefield experiences, and maintenance. It is safeguarded against ballistic, mine, and improvised explosive device threats, featuring STANAG 4569-certified armor that guarantees high safety levels for the crew within the vehicle during missions.

The Sherpa A2M can carry 40 rounds of 120mm mortar ammunition in the rear, with potential for additional payloads in the cabin based on user specifications. It has an operational range of up to 8.2 km with standard rifled ammunition, and up to 13 km with rocket-assisted projectiles, thus increasing the safety of deployed soldiers by allowing engagements without direct exposure (Shoot & Scoot).

By fusing the skills of these three industry leaders, the Sherpa A2M guarantees the utmost quality across its features: protected tactical mobility, durability, exceptional firepower, precision, and easily deployable systems with user-friendly fire control.

At Eurosatory 2022, the Sherpa A2M was showcased with a Hornet Lite RCWS equipped with a 7.62mm machine gun for the vehicle’s self-defense.
