Patria and Kongsberg Forge Alliance for Advanced Weapon Stations to Boost Sweden and Finland’s Defense under CAVS Initiative
Patria has entered into an agreement with Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (‘Kongsberg’) for the provision of PROTECTOR remote weapon stations to over 300 of Sweden’s and Finland’s Patria 6×6 vehicles as part of the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) initiative.
This contractual arrangement is notably distinctive as supplies for various clients are encompassed under a single agreement between Patria and Kongsberg. Patria assumes the role of the primary contractor and integrator of the vehicles, while Kongsberg is the chosen vendor for the PROTECTOR RS4 remote weapon stations. Deliveries are anticipated to commence in 2025 and extend into the 2030s.

The Patria 6×6 vehicle was selected as the platform for the CAVS collaboration initiative involving several European nations in 2021. CAVS-related deliveries of Patria 6×6 are currently underway to Latvia, Finland, and Sweden, with these vehicles actively deployed. Germany joined the initiative in April 2023.
“This partnership presents a rare opportunity to provide weapon systems catering to the requirements of multiple nations under one contract, marking another significant achievement for the global CAVS programme. The efficiencies and system unity benefits among partner nations are unparalleled and were already leveraged during the cooperative development phase,” stated Esa Rautalinko, President and CEO of Patria.
“At Kongsberg, we are delighted to collaborate closely with Patria to enhance the defence capabilities of Sweden and Finland. The choice of shared military assets among Nordic nations guarantees military interoperability and boosts logistical effectiveness. Additionally, it reinforces industrial collaboration in alignment with NATO’s vision for equipment interchangeability and supply chain security,” remarked Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace.
