Boeing Secures $2.3 Billion Deal for Enhanced KC-46A Tanker Fleet for the U.S. Air Force
Boeing is set to manufacture an additional 15 KC-46A Pegasus aerial tankers under a Lot 10 agreement granted by the U.S. Air Force, amounting to $2.3 billion. A total of 153 KC-46A versatile aerial refuelers are now secured globally, delivering enhanced operational advantages for the joint forces and allied partners.
“We value our collaboration with the U.S. Air Force, which facilitates the enhancement of the capacity and capabilities of the KC-46A fleet,” stated Lynn Fox, vice president and KC-46 program director. “We recognize the benefits that KC-46 functionalities provide to the warfighters, and in the current international climate, we remain committed to investing in the evolution of the aircraft to meet the dynamic demands of the mission.”
With a supply chain comprising approximately 37,000 American employees across more than 650 companies in over 40 U.S. states, the battle-tested KC-46A is redefining the role of aerial refueling for the 21st century.
From aerial refueling, cargo and passenger transport, aeromedical evacuation assistance, to tactical data connectivity, the KC-46A Pegasus has already been dubbed a “game changer” due to its capability to capture and relay data, facilitating swift air mobility, global reach, and Agile Combat Employment.
Earlier this year, the Air Force awarded Boeing a Block 1 enhancement contract, introducing advanced communication functionalities to bolster the aircraft’s data connectivity and situational awareness.
To date, Boeing has successfully delivered 76 KC-46As to the U.S. Air Force and two to the Japan Air Self-Defense Force.
