Rheinmetall Delivers Cutting-Edge Light Artillery to U.S. Army in $2 Million Deal

Rheinmetall plays a crucial role in the U.S. Army’s lightweight artillery cannon initiative. The American division, Rheinmetall Munition (Stafford, VA), has successfully secured a $2.5M contract from the U.S. Army for the provision of a more compact and lighter artillery system, aligning with the National Defense Strategy.

A portable artillery piece would significantly boost the agility, mobility, and firepower of Army artillery systems, offering the extended range firing capabilities that the Army is aiming to enhance across its complete howitzer inventory. It will also assist in shaping the Army’s ongoing capability evaluation for next-gen weaponry.

COL Lance Green, the Military Deputy of the Combat Capabilities Development Command-Armament Center (DEVCOM AC), remarked, “This DEVCOM AC initiative, in conjunction with numerous active Science and Technology projects, could provide our troops with a distinct edge in this increasingly intricate security landscape.”

“We take pride in the chance to assist the Army in its quest to innovate next-generation long-range precision fire technologies and especially to pioneer what might be revolutionary advanced, lightweight howitzer solutions,” expressed John Somich, CEO of American Rheinmetall Munition. “Rheinmetall stands at the forefront of artillery technology, encompassing munitions, propellant, and guns, and we are dedicated to leveraging our extensive expertise and resources to support the Army in this endeavor.”

American Rheinmetall Munition is actively enhancing its position as a primary provider of cutting-edge, next-gen armaments and ammunition in the U.S., utilizing an extensive global array of premier munitions and defense solutions offered by Rheinmetall and its subsidiaries. The contract for this new prototype artillery solution marks another opportunity to showcase American Rheinmetall Munition’s dedication as a crucial partner to the Army and to deliver next-generation advancements in technology.

American Rheinmetall Munition is a member of the American Rheinmetall family of defense enterprises in the U.S., which includes American Rheinmetall Systems in Biddeford, ME, American Rheinmetall Vehicles in Sterling Heights, MI, and the U.S. corporate parent, American Rheinmetall Defense located in Reston, VA.
