Rheinmetall Sets Sail: Exporting the Lynx Infantry Fighting Vehicle Test Chassis to the U.S.

Rheinmetall, the primary provider of combat vehicles to the Australian Defence Force, has today declared the fabrication and export agreement for a Lynx Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) Test Chassis to the United States from its manufacturing facility in Redbank, Queensland.

Rheinmetall Defence Australia Managing Director Gary Stewart remarked that this agreement marks the first initiative of its sort, generating design and production export opportunities for both the Rheinmetall team and its expanding network of Australian Industry partners.

“This represents a significant milestone for Rheinmetall and Australia, with the Lynx Infantry Fighting Vehicle test chassis being produced at the cutting-edge Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence (MILVEHCOE) in Redbank, Queensland. Importantly, it supports the Federal Government’s aspirations outlined in the Australian Defence Export Strategy,” he stated.

“The Australian-crafted Lynx Infantry Fighting Vehicle Chassis serves as a test platform aimed at Rheinmetall’s Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle (OMFV) initiative, highlighting advanced automotive functionalities within the Lynx framework,” he added.

Mr. Stewart noted that the Lynx vehicle export assignment will be received by Rheinmetall in the United States, bolstering the company’s global endeavors currently happening in the OMFV competition and the US Department of Defense’s initiative to replace the Bradley fighting vehicle.

“Lynx is a next-generation combat vehicle with unparalleled defense and firepower. Rheinmetall has created a state-of-the-art electronic framework to ensure onboard sensors, systems, and effectors can integrate into Defence’s extensive network architecture,” he emphasized.

“The new test vehicle will showcase sophisticated mobility features,” Mr. Stewart mentioned.

He also stated that Australian export prospects for Rheinmetall have enhanced with this agreement, benefiting the Australian Industry Capability (AIC) partners that contribute to the Lynx IFV.

“The AIC partners are the cornerstone of our Lynx manufacturing efforts in Australia.

We take pride in collaborating with organizations such as:

  • Marand                    Roof module,
  • Supashock               Running gear,
  • MILSPEC Bisalloy    Alternator, and Steel along with various mechanical and electrical fabrication partner content.

Mr. Stewart indicated that while Rheinmetall has announced the export of the Lance Turret to Hungary, this will be our inaugural vehicle export from Australia.

The Lynx is a next-generation infantry fighting vehicle engineered to meet the demands of future combat scenarios. The Lynx offers versatility, survivability, and capabilities not previously seen in a vehicle of its kind, and serves as a highly protected IFV designed to fulfill rigorous military standards.
