RUAG Secures Agreement to Enhance Deployment of CV9030 Armored Infantry Fighting Vehicles
RUAG has finalized an agreement with the Swedish firm BAE Systems Hägglunds and, as the key vendor, has obtained an extensive order as part of the Swiss Army’s extension of deployment of the armored infantry combat vehicles CV9030 (Nutzungsverlängerung Schützenpanzer 2000).
The offerings delivered by RUAG encompass the implementation of strategies to prolong the utility of 186 CV9030 tracked vehicles in four distinct configurations, alongside other extensive services, such as the establishment of a material expertise center.
This initiative aspires to render the armored infantry combat vehicles functional until 2040. Notably, components that can no longer be serviced are substituted. Furthermore, the vehicles are outfitted with an active chassis to enhance maneuverability and minimize damage from vibrations.
The initiative will commence with the creation of two series prototypes in Sweden, followed by the subsequent production of five pilot series vehicles at RUAG in Thun. After successful evaluations, the entire fleet will undergo modifications at RUAG, expected to persist until 2025.
BAE Systems Hägglunds, the Swedish branch of the British defense enterprise BAE Systems, is the original producer of the CV90 and a direct contractual collaborator of armasuisse. As the key supplier, RUAG’s maintenance and development proficiency is compelling in this agreement. The 186 vehicles will not just be modified and serviced at RUAG’s material expertise center, but will also undergo further advancements. RUAG is also responsible for the design and manufacturing of the Auxiliary Power Unit, which is incorporated into the tank.
As a strategic ally and material expertise center, RUAG therefore aids in ensuring the operational readiness and independence of the Swiss Armed Forces.
