Saab Secures Contract for Cutting-Edge Carl-Gustaf M4 and Munition Supply
Saab has secured a contract for the supply of Carl-Gustaf® M4 armaments and ammunition to the Estonian Defence Forces. The contract value is approximately 100 MSEK, with deliveries scheduled for 2021-2022.
This contract was established under a collaborative framework agreement with Estonia, in conjunction with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) and Latvia. The framework allows the Estonian client to place orders for Carl-Gustaf M4 armaments and ammunition over a decade-long period. The Estonian Defence Forces have utilized the Carl-Gustaf weaponry system for more than twenty years.
“With this procurement, the Estonian client will bolster their operational capabilities. It’s a significant accomplishment to witness further investments in our Carl-Gustaf system, and it serves as evidence of the client’s satisfaction with the solution,” states Görgen Johansson, head of Saab’s business sector Dynamics.
“The partnership between the Estonian and Swedish firm Saab has been highly valued by both entities, and we are pleased that, despite the challenging impacts of the pandemic, we received last year’s order punctually, especially considering numerous companies faced supply issues. We have also initiated a second order for around 250 Carl-Gustaf M4 systems to substitute the older Carl-Gustaf M2. We are particularly delighted that Saab has augmented its production capability, and the first shipments will be arriving by the end of this year,” remarks Ramil Lipp, Strategic Category Manager of armaments at the Estonian Centre for Defence Investment.
Carl-Gustaf M4 is the most recent iteration of the portable, shoulder-fired, multi-role weaponry system. It provides users with a diverse array of engagement possibilities and enables forces to maintain agility and efficacy in any situation. This version enhances the system’s formidable attributes, yielding improved accuracy, reduced weight, and compatibility with forthcoming innovations. The M4 is also aligned with advanced sight systems and prospective technological advancements, such as programmable munitions.
