Saab Unveils New Era of Carl-Gustaf M4 Training Solutions for Sweden

Saab has secured a contract for the supply of the Carl-Gustaf® M4 Ground Combat Indoor Trainer (GC IDT), with an estimated order value of approximately 135 MSEK, and deliveries are scheduled for 2022-2023.

This contract is established under a framework agreement, signed in June 2019, permitting the Swedish Defence Material Administration (FMV), along with the Estonian and Latvian Armed Forces, to place orders for Carl-Gustaf M4 weaponry, training systems, and associated apparatus over a decade. Saab’s Ground Combat Indoor Trainer (GC IDT) equips users with replica weaponry, a simulated environment, and an advanced assessment system to facilitate realistic and precise training.

“We are delighted to deliver the Swedish Armed Forces our authentic and budget-conscious virtual training solution GC IDT. By leveraging our creative approach and advanced technology, the Carl-Gustaf M4 GC IDT simulates the function and features of genuine weapons and ammunition, including their ballistics and terminal effects. This enables us to equip the team with essential skills as well as engagement methodologies, paired with training utilizing actual systems,” states Åsa Thegström, head of Saab’s Training & Simulation business unit.

This contract encompasses complete training facilities that allow simultaneous instruction for up to 100 soldiers. It also includes conversion kits for swift transformation from a studio setup to standalone individual trainers with a compact footprint. The GC IDT system can be enhanced to incorporate training with a variety of weapon types, ranging from small arms to shoulder-fired missiles.
