“GRIFFON SAN Earns DGA Certification Under the Innovative SCORPION Initiative”
In line with the guidelines established by the SCORPION initiative, the Medical variant of the GRIFFON has recently been validated by the French procurement authority (DGA).
Developed through the collaboration of GME EBMR (Nexter, Arquus, and Thales), the GRIFFON is a state-of-the-art 24-ton multi-functional armored vehicle (VBMR) seamlessly integrated into the SCORPION information framework. Since 2019, the Army has been receiving the planned 1872 GRIFFON units as part of the SCORPION project. The objective of the SAN version is to facilitate the retrieval and evacuation of injured personnel in combat zones. This variant ensures enhanced protection, maneuverability, and favorable conditions for medical operations for both evacuated individuals and the medical crew, surpassing current capabilities. The first GRIFFON SAN units are anticipated in 2023. They will undertake numerous missions of the GRIFFON Multi-Role Vehicle (MRV), fulfilling diverse roles such as troop transport, command center, communication relay, artillery surveillance, or the 120mm mortar variant (MEPAC), which recently received a production order from the DGA. Deployed since 2021 in the Sahel region by the French Armed Forces, the GRIFFON is lauded for its operational performance, maneuverability, and ease of upkeep.
The GRIFFON features shared equipment with other SCORPION vehicles, including the vetronics system and the SCORPION Combat Information System (SICS), which introduces advanced communication functionalities and enables battlefield digitization. It also boasts a remotely controlled turret that integrates observation, protection, and combat functions, central to collaborative warfare. The GRIFFON was developed under the SCORPION initiative to modernize the French army’s medium armored vehicle fleet alongside the JAGUAR armored reconnaissance and combat vehicle and the SERVAL light armored vehicle.
The GME EBMR takes pride in this qualification, which enhances the operational capabilities of the GRIFFON. The teams from Nexter, Arquus, and Thales remain steadfastly committed to equipping the French Army with the necessary tools to accomplish their current missions efficiently.
