“Revolutionizing Naval Power: SIATT Unleashes Innovative MANSUP from Terra Firma for Brazil’s Navy”
In a significant milestone, the organization SIATT assisted the Brazilian Navy on December 17th in executing a National Surface Anti-Ship Missile (MANSUP) launch from a ground-based platform.
The pioneering operation was carried out using the ASTROS launcher, an artillery rocket system utilized by the Marine Corps of the MB to saturate target zones.
This operation took place at Restinga da Marambaia (situated in the State of Rio de Janeiro), coordinated by the Navy’s Weapons Systems Directorate and supported by the Army’s Assessment Center.
These projects are crucial to the MANSUP Initiative, which focuses on equipping the latest ‘Tamandaré’ class frigates with this state-of-the-art smart weapon and bolstering the Brazilian Navy’s operational readiness for safeguarding the nation’s coastal regions (referred to as the Blue Amazon).

The MANSUP Project Leader and SIATT representative, Robson Duarte, highlighted that the launch of the MANSUP missile from a terrestrial platform marks a pivotal and innovative success for Brazil’s defense sector. “This launch bestows us with autonomy and independence, strengthening the nation’s technological self-sufficiency, reducing dependency on foreign armaments, and reinforcing our Defense Industrial Base.”
Duarte also stated the project’s importance for Brazil. “MANSUP can effectively integrate with other defense frameworks, including radars and the Blue Amazon Management System (SisGAAz), providing a synchronized and efficient approach to maritime challenges. Protecting the natural maritime resources of our Blue Amazon, including oil and gas, is essential for the nation’s economic advancement. The MANSUP missile serves a strategic function in ensuring national sovereignty and deterring threats to Brazilian interests,” he elaborated.

The Director of DSAM, Vice-Admiral Carlos Henrique de Lima Zampieri, noted that the MANSUP, with a range extending up to 70 kilometers and remarkable precision, brings flexibility and responsiveness to military actions. “The missile is designed for launch from naval vessels and mobile platforms, such as the launchers of the CFN. The versatility of the launchers permits modifications according to situational and geographical requirements, ensuring efficient defensive capabilities.”
The next phase of the MANSUP Initiative involves developing operational requirements and technical specifications for the future deployment of the defense system specified for the use by the CFN, thus enhancing the capacity to meet current needs, as stated by the Commander of the Marine Corps Material, Vice Admiral Roberto Ramos Lage. “Coastal defense is a critical aspect of safeguarding our Blue Amazon. Today’s launch signifies another step forward in the Navy’s successful mission to equip the Marine Corps with the necessary resources to address the diverse challenges in an ever-evolving landscape.”

Blue Amazon
Brazil encompasses a maritime territory spanning approximately 5.7 million square kilometers, rich in various resources and featuring substantial naval infrastructure. As a means to protect this legacy for generations to come, the activation of MANSUP on the CFN’s ASTROS launcher significantly bolsters the Maritime Defense Strategy.
