Finland Boosts Defense Arsenal with Enhanced Patria 6×6 Armored Vehicle Acquisition

The Finnish Defence Forces is securing additional Patria 6×6 vehicles from the supplementary acquisition option outlined in the formerly established contract. In the summer of 2023, Patria and the Defence Forces Logistics Command formalized a contract for 91 armoured personnel carriers equipped with necessary technology.

The procurement contract featured a supplementary acquisition option for 70 vehicles, of which the Defence Forces already obtained 41 at the onset of the year 2023–2024 and now an extra 29 vehicles. The requested vehicles are scheduled for delivery by the conclusion of 2025.

“Acquisition of the complete domestic supplementary purchase option is significant for Patria and the entire international CAVS joint initiative. The initiative has advanced swiftly due to outstanding collaboration between Patria and the involved nations. This joint effort among countries promotes efficient vehicle development and lifecycle support, expedited procurements, and equipment compatibility, thereby enhancing defence collaboration within Europe,” states Jussi Järvinen, who oversees Patria’s operations in Finland.

The procurement forms part of the global CAVS (Common Armoured Vehicle System) joint initiative, which encompasses Finland, Latvia, Sweden, and Germany. The research and development agreement for this collective project was ratified at the end of 2020, with deliveries initiated to three countries within three years.
