EU Chooses Renowned Consortium to Forge Next-Gen Land Combat Innovations

On July 21st, the European Commission sanctioned the financing from the European Defence Fund (EDF) for the defense industry Consortium FAMOUS2 proposal, which aims to innovate European Future Highly Mobile Augmented Armoured Systems. As a continuation of the FAMOUS initiative, FAMOUS2 seeks to create future modular ground vehicles and associated technologies, including sustainable innovations.

Already a participant in the Consortium and integral to the FAMOUS endeavor, Arquus is thrilled to be involved in FAMOUS2, alongside the lead partner Patria from Finland, fellow French defense leader Nexter, and 15 other prominent firms from Finland, Austria, Germany, Spain, Greece, Belgium, Norway, Latvia, and Denmark.

The initiative is endorsed by nine nations, including France, and will receive EU funding approaching 95 million euros. This represents a significant advancement for European defense industrial collaboration, alongside providing a unique opportunity for Arquus to engage in a highly ambitious and thrilling land defense program designed to influence the future landscape of European ground defense.

The FAMOUS2 initiative focuses on developing cutting-edge technological components for the next-generation armored platforms and enhancing existing systems, such as future all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), light armored vehicles (LAVs), and Main Battle Tanks (MBTs).

This project builds upon the ongoing EDIDP 2020 FAMOUS initiative, thereby furthering research on vehicle and system concepts initiated during this precursor stage.

The FAMOUS2 program is expected to commence in 2023 and conclude by 2026, concentrating on vehicle architecture, which will be succeeded by the design, fabrication, and testing of prototypes developed within this framework.

As an expert in light and medium armored vehicles, along with propulsion and energy management, Arquus will assume a critical role in FAMOUS2, particularly in the realms of vehicle architecture, mobility, and power solutions.

Through this initiative, Arquus will contribute to enhancing capabilities, fostering innovation, and elevating collaboration levels among key players in the European Defense sector.
