“Unveiling the Future: KNDS Charts the Course for Next-Gen Main Battle Tanks”
With its cutting-edge technology, KNDS has consistently managed to adjust to the operational demands of its clients with battle-tested and versatile systems. Today, KNDS unveils the three phases of its MBT strategy.
LEOPARD 2A8 and Leclerc XLR: the verified benchmarks of main battle tanks
KNDS is leveraging the current extensive and growing European LEOPARD clientele. The latest iteration of the LEOPARD 2 A8 is defined by superior protection, optimal reconnaissance capabilities, advanced communication systems, and maximum effectiveness on the battlefield. It represents a successful collaboration with 22 user nations.
KNDS is also highlighting the Leclerc XLR. The upgrade to the XLR standard for the French Army’s Leclerc fleet is in progress. This modernization of the Leclerc MBT for the French Army addresses urgent needs for protection and communication, while intermediate demands will be addressed by the Leclerc Evolution from 2030 onward.
LEOPARD 2 ARC 3.0 and Leclerc Evolution: the modular options for the upcoming decade
For the first time, KNDS presents the next two phases of its MBT agenda: the LEOPARD 2 A-RC 3.0 and the Leclerc Evolution. Both systems are in development, and they incorporate a modular turret that allows for a transition from a 120 mm to a 140mm ASCALON® gun.
The Leclerc Evolution features a manned turret outfitted with a 120 mm ASCALON® gun, which can be easily upgraded to larger calibers up to 140 mm. Introducing a new paradigm with four crew members designed for the latest tactical environments, the Leclerc Evolution integrates a deputy commander station within the chassis to oversee an extensive suite of sensors and effectors, such as the ARX 30 RCWS, which is ideally suited for counter-UAV operations and a loitering munition launcher.
The Leopard 2 ARC 3.0 is a three-crew MBT featuring an unmanned and modular turret capable of accommodating a primary gun from 120mm to 140mm along with its autoloader. The turret also includes a 30mm secondary weapon and anti-tank missile systems.
Both the Leclerc Evolution and the Leopard 2 ARC 3.0 will ensure a commercial synergy and a unified vision for the third phase of KNDS’ strategy: the creation of MBT demonstrators paving the way for the development of MGCS.
The EMBT ADT 140: envisioning the future
KNDS is proactively preparing for MGCS by developing the ASCALON® Demonstrator Turret (ADT 140), a remotely-operated turret featuring a 140 mm ASCALON® gun. During Eurosatory 2024, KNDS will showcase the EMBT paired with the ADT 140. This turret demonstrator aims to validate KNDS’ unparalleled firepower while illustrating its vision for future technological integration, including sensor fusion, comprehensive hemispheric active protection, AI, cyber capabilities, and hybrid energy applications. In the realm of autonomous mobility, KNDS is advancing a remotely operated main battle tank chassis.
This year, KNDS will feature the exceptional firepower of the 140mm ASCALON® gun and the adaptability of its technology, capable of switching between 120 and 140mm calibers. In the coming month, we will demonstrate its proficiency in firing on the move through a remotely controlled ASCALON® 140 mm turret.
