Revolutionizing UK Armoured Vehicles: New Venture in Emergency Lighting Solutions
In a recent sub-contract allocation, as part of the UK Boxer Mechanised Infantry Vehicle Initiative for the British Army, KMW and WFEL have entered into a contract with AeroGlow International for the provision of advanced HaLO Vehicle Egress Lighting Systems.
This agreement encompasses the supply of tailored HaLO systems, with shipments beginning in 2021 and extending until 2031. The granting of this sub-contract to a UK SME underscores the dedication to procure 60% by value of the Boxer contract from domestic sources, safeguarding national engineering and manufacturing expertise while ensuring that the vehicles are supported throughout their 30-year operational lifespan.
Emergency lighting solutions are acknowledged as critical for the safety of the Boxer vehicles, and Salisbury-based AeroGlow asserts that the installation of the HaLO system on Boxer will effectively mitigate risks related to drowning and egress for British military personnel in the foreseeable future. The emergency lighting systems will be incorporated into the Boxer vehicles by WFEL at their cutting-edge Boxer MIV manufacturing facility in Stockport.
The proven AeroGlow LED escape lighting system will direct Boxer occupants to an exit swiftly in the event of a traumatic situation – such as impact from an explosion, rollover, or being submerged in water – ensuring that soldiers can evacuate promptly.
AeroGlow’s Business Development Director, Keith White, remarked, “We are thrilled that the latest model of HaLO, featuring our Capacitor Pack power supply, has been selected for the Boxer platform. With the contract alongside KMW and WFEL designed to last 10 years, this guarantees job security for our team and our UK suppliers’ workforce for the long term.”
This contract award aligns with a previous contract granted to AeroGlow International by Rheinmetall and RBSL which – along with KMW and WFEL – are collaborative partners in the UK for the production of the Boxer vehicles for the British Army.
