“Joining Forces: DSTA and Leonardo Ignite Tech Innovation and Workforce Growth for Lasting Impact”

Singapore’s Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) and Leonardo have forged a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Singapore Airshow on 20 February 2024.

This collaboration aims to unite the two entities in their efforts to promote technological innovation, enhance talent development, and strengthen the long-term viability of Leonardo systems employed by the Singapore Armed Forces.

Within the framework of the MOU, DSTA will partner with Leonardo—one of the industry leaders in developing and supplying systems and products for naval defense and maritime surveillance—leveraging the company’s expertise in naval artillery and underwater technologies to investigate applicable scenarios for Singapore. DSTA is also committed to cultivating local talent through internship opportunities and specialized courses in areas related to Leonardo’s strengths. Furthermore, both organizations will look into establishing technical support to elevate the system service level significantly.

DSTA’s Deputy Chief Executive (Operations) Mr. Roy Chan stated, “DSTA remains dedicated to delivering innovative solutions and enhancing the technical capabilities of our workforce. We anticipate a productive partnership with Leonardo—I am confident that this alliance will elevate us to new levels, ensuring our team is well-prepared to tackle the evolving challenges of an increasingly complex world.”

“Thanks to our accumulated expertise and ongoing investments in essential technologies, such as digital transformation, Leonardo is equipped to address surveillance and command requirements of both surface and underwater domains, which are marked by intricate scenarios,” remarked Mr. Marco De Fazio, Managing Director of Leonardo’s Electronics Division. “This collaboration with DSTA signifies a pivotal step in disseminating knowledge of our systems and jointly exploring future growth opportunities.”
