HALCON Teams Up with Rheinmetall Air Defence for Cutting-Edge Multi-Sensor Development
EDGE organization, HALCON, a prominent player in the creation and manufacturing of advanced weapon systems and beyond, has disclosed a collaboration with Rheinmetall Air Defence in Switzerland, a top-tier producer of cutting-edge air defence and anti-aircraft systems and a subsidiary of Rheinmetall.
As part of the agreement, Rheinmetall Air Defence will design and certify the truck-mounted Oerlikon Multi Sensor Unit (MSU), which is a remotely operated, quickly deployable sensor unit. The MSU is integrated into the Oerlikon Skynex Air Defence System, which encompasses HALCON’s SKYKNIGHT counter rocket, artillery, and mortar (C-RAM) missile system.
Hamad Al Marar, President of Missiles & Weapons at EDGE, remarked: “Effective air defense requires a comprehensive, multi-layered strategy. Rheinmetall Air Defence, a global frontrunner in air defence system development, thoroughly grasps this concept, as evident in the advanced Skynex SKYKNIGHT Air Defence System. HALCON actively contributes to the systems development, having created the SKYKNIGHT Missile and Missile Launcher Unit, offering essential protection against saturation assaults.”
“We are excited to advance our partnership with Rheinmetall Air Defence, as the development of the MSU will serve as another significant contribution from HALCON. The signing of this agreement represents an essential milestone as we strive to expand the limits in the air defense sector and discover innovative methods to secure our airspace.”
Marco Parisi, Sales Director at Rheinmetall Air Defence, stated: “Rheinmetall Air Defence is thrilled to work alongside HALCON for the development of this revolutionary sensor system. This collaboration exemplifies both companies’ dedication to delivering the UAE cutting-edge Air Defence Systems. The Oerlikon Skynex Air Defence System, combined with HALCON’s SkyKnight Missile, stands as the optimal solution for safeguarding UAE’s critical infrastructure.”
The MSU is equipped with a 4D active electronically scanned array radar, offering 360° coverage and the capability to automatically classify identified targets, transferring the generated tracks to the most appropriate gun or missile launcher autonomously or at the press of a button.
The development and certification of the MSU will occur in Switzerland. Under a subsequent agreement, it will be initially manufactured in Switzerland and Italy, followed by localization to facilitate production in the UAE.
