Leonardo Pioneers Groundbreaking Multi-Domain Electronic Warfare Simulation Solutions

The innovative product, launched at the CANSEC 2022 showcase in Ottawa, Canada, emulates intricate multi-threat operations involving land, aerial, and maritime forces.

Leonardo has rolled out Newton, a software solution that simulates contemporary dangers to military forces and the countermeasures they can implement to enhance survivability. Newton can expedite and validate the development of cutting-edge electronic warfare (EW) technologies, methodologies, and strategies. The virtual, physics-driven environment permits the digital modeling and virtual testing of new technologies in a realistic setting that mirrors today’s and tomorrow’s battlefields.
In the past, simulations would only encompass a single domain; however, contemporary conflicts are considerably more likely to involve aerial, terrestrial, naval, and even space forces within the same engagement. This is why the EW specialists at Leonardo have evaluated and advanced the company’s existing simulation offerings to modernize them. Newton will receive ongoing updates to ensure it aligns with the multi-domain needs of contemporary military forces.

Newton is also the inaugural commercial tool on the market to simulate integrated defensive aid packages across electro-optic (EO), infrared (IR), and radio frequency (RF) sensors and effectors for land, maritime, and aerial forces. Another groundbreaking feature is its capability to depict the intricate multi-threat, multi-mode engagements that military bodies are anticipated to encounter in near-peer confrontations.

The capacity to simulate a modern and crowded EW ecosystem makes Newton beneficial for various applications, including the development of operational strategies and electronic countermeasures, validation, support for advanced research and development, and pre-operational mission simulation. Leonardo’s EW software is employed by military forces, research organizations, OEMs, and defense contractors.

Newton supersedes the company’s Tactical Engagement Simulation Software (TESS™) product within the organization’s offerings and builds upon over three decades of EW modeling and simulation expertise at Leonardo Canada – Electronics in Ottawa. As with all of Leonardo’s electronic warfare functionalities, in addition to providing the product, Leonardo can offer training and support extending from basic levels to assisting in the establishment of national EW centers of excellence for a client’s armed forces.
