Leonardo Unveils Innovative Lionfish Turrets for Next-Level Naval Defense
Leonardo broadens its array of naval defense offerings with the introduction of Lionfish, a new collection of small-caliber remotely operated turrets. Entirely crafted and formulated by Leonardo, this innovative line comprises four variants: Ultralight, Inner Reloading, and Top of 12.7 mm caliber, along with the model 20 of 20 mm caliber.
Featuring a shared architecture, the Lionfish turret family boasts a compact and lightweight design. The assorted models available render it an exceptionally adaptable solution suitable for deployment aboard various types of vessels, serving as both primary and secondary defense mechanisms. The fresh, technologically sophisticated human-machine interface systems are user-friendly, minimizing crew training durations while the architectural solutions employed ensure high reliability and minimal maintenance intervals.
The remote operation of the turrets, executed via a local control console, combined with Leonardo’s advanced electro-optical sensors, enables the precise identification of targets, whether in daylight or at night.

Border surveillance, maritime traffic ban, self-defense, and neutralizing various threats including asymmetric surface attacks, helicopters, and drones, are among the operational scenarios where this system can ensure high efficacy. Designed to fulfill the most rigorous client demands, Lionfish amalgamates technologies that align with the pinnacle market standards, providing an excellent equilibrium between cost and performance.
The Lionfish turrets come in four distinct versions:
Lionfish 12.7 Inner Reloading
The Lionfish 12.7 Inner Reloading is a remotely operated small caliber naval artillery system, granting the operator the ability to reload ammunition from below deck under secure circumstances.
The capacity for safe reloading makes this turret suitable for installation on the top of small boats aimed at border surveillance, maritime traffic interdiction, and self-defense.
Lionfish Ultralight
The Lionfish 12.7 Ultralight is a remotely controlled small caliber naval gun system recognized for its lightweight, minimal deck interface, and optimal balance between performance and price. It proves effective onboard small surface vessels for border control, maritime traffic interdiction, and self-defense.
Lionfish 12.7 Top
The Lionfish 12.7 Top is a remotely controlled stealth small caliber naval artillery system, designed to fulfill the most stringent demands of Asymmetric Warfare (ASyW) owing to its extensive magazine capacity.
It is tailored for law enforcement and military uses, serving as either primary or secondary weaponry in various operational contexts, even amid threats surrounding the vessel (such as during hijacking attempts), thanks to its elevated downward aiming limit and dynamic capabilities.
Lionfish 20
The Lionfish 20 is a remotely controlled small-caliber naval artillery system distinguished by its long operational range and high rate of fire. Due to its compact size and light weight, Lionfish 20 equips minimal surface vessels with the capability to neutralize asymmetric surface threats, helicopters, and drones, while also being applicable onboard larger vessels as secondary armament.
