“Transforming Qatar’s Waters: Leonardo Boosts Naval Surveillance Capabilities”
Leonardo will furnish the Qatari Emiri Naval Forces (QENF) with a Naval Operations Centre (NOC) to ensure the oversight and management of territorial waters, Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), and surrounding maritime areas while simultaneously promoting collaboration with other national entities tasked with maritime security. The Centre utilizes cutting-edge systems and technologies together with the complete integration of aerial and maritime elements. This announcement was made today at DIMDEX, the premier regional event focused on international maritime defense and security, being held in Doha until March 23rd.
As part of the accord, the NOC will facilitate command, control, and coordination of naval operations, enabling the Armed Forces to achieve integrated monitoring by leveraging the extensive cooperation among all sensors present in the field. Consequently, QENF will have comprehensive situational awareness to bolster the decision-making process of all operational and tactical stakeholders and enable prompt actions throughout the entire command chain.
Leonardo is vital in safeguarding Qatar. Its presence in the nation has been established for nearly 25 years. The maritime sector is a significant focus for the organization, which is equipping, in its role as a combat system integrator, the Navy’s new vessels with its advanced naval capabilities, ranging from comprehensive combat management systems for all classes of military ships to naval defense systems.
This significant achievement, which further cements the collaboration between the Armed Forces and the defense industry of the two nations, has been accomplished thanks to the company’s extensive expertise in designing and developing systems that ensure interoperability among all platforms—air, land, naval, surface, and underwater, both manned and unmanned—under the guidance of operational centers to facilitate efficient mission planning.
