Leonardo Unveils Custom Cybersecurity Training Program for Qatar
Leonardo has been selected by the Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) to provide its Cyber Range & Training platform. This system will enable the education of cyber security professionals and empower the Institute to evaluate the robustness of digital frameworks against prospective cyber threats. Leonardo formalized the agreement with the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, which established the QCRI, as part of the recent wave of collaborative accords between Italy and Qatar.
Leonardo’s Cyber Range & Training solution will permit the QCRI to execute a comprehensive cyber education program, from developing the curriculum to individualized training sessions. Participants will have the opportunity to hone their skills in simulated offensive and defensive scenarios, utilizing both information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT). The training will cultivate proficient teams of operators armed with contemporary knowledge and techniques, prepared to tackle ever-changing cyber menaces.
“Our appointment by the Qatar Computing Research Institute underscores that Leonardo and our collaborators deliver leading-edge solutions rooted in open innovation principles. It also emphasizes the confidence that international clients have in Leonardo within the cyber sector,” stated Tommaso Profeta, Managing Director of Leonardo’s Cyber Security Division.
Beyond training, the platform offers the capability to evaluate IT infrastructures for their robustness against potential cyber threats. The platform scrutinizes software, protocols, and how an infrastructure is administered while simulating various attack scenarios to assess their potential effectiveness. These scenarios, reflecting authentic operational conditions, can be employed in hands-on cyber warfare drills as well as to evaluate and validate the performance and capabilities of both physical and virtual devices prior to their actual deployment.
Collaboration among governments, individuals, and industries to ensure the highest level of security is a core principle of Leonardo’s “Be Tomorrow 2030” strategic initiative.
Leonardo in Qatar
The partnership between Leonardo and Qatar is founded on solid principles. The company is tasked with air traffic management systems and meteorological instruments at Hamad International Airport, where a surveillance radar has recently been integrated for approach operations. Over 40 of Leonardo’s AW139 and AW189 helicopters are utilized in Qatar for both civilian and military purposes, and Leonardo is also engaged in the NH90 Qatar program: the inaugural helicopters tailored for naval and land missions have recently taken to the skies. In the maritime area, Leonardo provides state-of-the-art systems and sensors for new Qatari vessels and is responsible for a surveillance and air defense radar network. Leonardo is additionally involved in projects related to the infrastructures for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
