Leonardo is excited to reveal the triumphant inaugural flight of the first of eight enhanced Brazilian Navy Super Lynx Mk21B helicopters at its Yeovil facility, located in southwest England, on 28th September 2017. The advanced Lynx helicopters will provide Brazil’s Naval Aviation with a substantial enhancement in its capabilities, significantly boosting aircraft performance and mission efficiency.
The Super Lynx Mk21B is equipped with two state-of-the-art CTS800-4N engines, already utilized in the Super Lynx 300 and AW159 helicopters, delivering considerable performance enhancements, particularly in elevated temperatures, augmenting payload capacity and mission efficiency. A newly designed glass cockpit will be complemented by a sophisticated avionic suite, featuring a tactical processor, satellite-based navigation system, civil navigation tools including a Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), Automatic Identification System (AIS), radar warning receiver/electronic surveillance measures synchronized with countermeasures dispensers, and a fully Night Vision Goggle (NVG) compatible cockpit, alongside a new electrically operated rescue hoist.
The inaugural flight represents another significant milestone in the long-standing collaboration between Leonardo and the Brazilian Navy, which has been utilizing Lynx helicopters since 1978.
