“Dynamic Defense: Versatile Turrets for Every Challenge”
Leonardo is globally recognized for the superiority of its naval weaponry, notably the widely utilized 76/62 Super Rapido across all of its diverse variations, along with the 127/64 Light Weight.
With the introduction of its latest engineered and developed LIONFISH series, Leonardo has solidified its status as a market frontrunner in the compact calibre artillery arena as well.
The LIONFISH series is crafted to fulfill the increasing demand for versatile light solutions that can serve for patrolling, safeguarding forces, and securing installations. To accommodate varying needs, the collection includes three 12.7-calibre turrets – Lionfish ULTRALIGHT, INNER RELOADING e TOP – alongside a 20-calibre turret known as the Lionfish 20.
The distinctive attributes shared across the series encompass modularity, a minimal maintenance requirement and user-friendly operation, which reduces training necessities and aids in lowering lifecycle costs.
All turrets are simple to mount, even on smaller vessels, as they do not penetrate the deck and ensure target acquisition with exceptional accuracy, even in adverse maritime conditions, owing to their complete stabilisation on two axes (elevation and Azimuth). Each turret can autonomously compute the firing solution and is equipped with a coaxial electro-optical system featuring a high-definition daylight camera, infrared camera, and laser range finder for tracking targets. The optics are also developed in-house. The MINI COLIBRÌ can be outfitted with either a more efficient cooled infrared sensor, capable of detecting and identifying threats from further distances, or a cost-effective uncooled infrared sensor.
Depending on the sensor type, the detection range can extend up to an impressive 12 km, with identification distances between 3.3 and 2.7 km.
As the name indicates, the ULTRALIGHT is the most lightweight turret, weighing under 180 kg. It exerts minimal influence on the platform it is installed on and features an elevation range from -20° to +70°, ensuring coverage against both surface targets and aerial threats such as drones and helicopters. The ULTRALIGHT can also be deployed on land vehicles or installations, as well as on crafts under 10 tons and less than 10 meters in length. This model has successfully undergone tests on unmanned vessels as well.
The INNER RELOADING, weighing below 215 kg, incorporates a stealth design that shields it from environmental conditions and enhances its concealment from adversaries. It can likewise be adapted for land vehicles and installations.
The TOP delivers the highest performance within the series. Its coverage is more comprehensive, boasting a significant level of stealth, and is equipped with the best Cooled IR optics. It weighs less than 300 kg. It is distinguished by its maximum depression range of up to -30°, allowing for engagement of targets extremely close to the vessel’s hull. This capability is critical for effectively countering threats ranging from pirate boardings to the dire scenario of suicide boat attacks.
All turrets share a fundamental architecture and identical support components for below-deck installation, starting with the control console featuring a 17” touchscreen and two multifunction joysticks for complete remote control.
