BAE Systems Unveils Next-Gen Seekers for Advanced Ballistic Missiles

BAE Systems has secured a contract from Lockheed Martin to create and produce next-generation infrared seeker innovations for the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) interceptor missile. The THAAD seeker delivers essential detection and navigation capabilities that aid in safeguarding the United States and its global partners from ballistic missile threats.

“THAAD is an exceptionally proficient system for addressing high-speed missile dangers, and we’re enhancing its capabilities,” stated Greg Procopio, head of Precision Guidance and Sensing Solutions at BAE Systems. “We’re predicting the functionalities of tomorrow’s ballistic missiles and developing versatile electronic systems to counteract those challenges.”

Guided by BAE Systems’ infrared innovations, THAAD interceptors target ballistic missiles and neutralize warheads using kinetic energy both within and outside the atmosphere. The seeker’s design is shaped by BAE Systems’ vast experience in precision munitions, electronic warfare technologies, and compact electronic solutions, along with its comprehensive understanding of the threat landscape.

BAE Systems’ efforts on the THAAD seeker are carried out at the company’s Electronic Systems facilities located in Endicott, New York; Huntsville, Alabama; and Nashua, New Hampshire.
