Collins Aerospace HF Radio Chosen As Standard for C-130J Super Hercules

The Collins Aerospace HF-9500 High Frequency (HF) airborne communication solution has been chosen by Lockheed Martin for all forthcoming international C-130J Super Hercules Foreign Military Sales (FMS) production aircraft. The HF-9500 is currently available, superseding the outdated ARC-190 previously provided for global C-130J clients.

The HF-9500 is an all-encompassing system featuring a state-of-the-art receiver-transmitter, antenna coupler, and radio control that can be seamlessly integrated into diverse aircraft and antenna setups. Specifically engineered for retrofitting, it allows for swift installation at a minimal cost with negligible downtime or effect on aircraft operational readiness. The architecture boasts enhanced software capabilities that align with both present and future requirements, including open system standards and real-time secure transfer of Command and Control (C2) data beyond-line-of-sight via HF.

“HF communications represent a vital alternative to SATCOM in challenging environments,” stated Ryan Bunge, vice president and general manager of Communication, Navigation, and Guidance Solutions at Collins Aerospace. “Standardizing this technology for international C-130J operators guarantees that pilots are armed with the most dependable, long-range HF communication systems necessary for successful missions.”

Collins has maintained its status as a pioneer in HF technology for over seventy years, delivering communication solutions across air, land, and sea. Currently, the company supplies HF systems for the U.S. Air Force’s High Frequency Global Communications System (HFGCS) and extends HF communications to nearly all airlift, tanker, and bomber resources utilized within the U.S. Department of Defense.
