“Ultimate Proposal for F-35 Delivered to Finnish Authorities”

The U.S. administration alongside Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) presented a best and final offer (BAFO) for the F-35 on April 29, 2021, to the Finnish government as part of its initiative to replace the existing fighter fleet.

The F-35 proposal encompasses a comprehensive package that features F-35A aircraft and a tailored sustainment solution designed to fulfill Finnish security supply requirements, particularly in closed border situations. The BAFO also presents numerous unprecedented opportunities for the Finnish industry to engage directly in F-35 production and sustainment.

“The F-35 will provide Finnish industries with high-tech employment opportunities that no other competitor can match,” stated Bridget Lauderdale, Vice President and General Manager of the F-35 Program. “Production activities will extend for over two decades, while F-35 sustainment efforts will persist into the 2050s. Finland will not only maintain its own F-35s, but it will also contribute to the global fleet by producing major components.”

Through indirect industrial participation initiatives beyond F-35 production, Lockheed Martin aims to establish relationships with Finnish enterprises and academic institutions, promoting opportunities that emphasize the advancement of security collaborations.

Equipped with stealth capabilities, supersonic speeds, cutting-edge sensors, weaponry capacity, and enhanced range, the F-35 stands as the most advanced, survivable, and interconnected aircraft globally. It represents the most economical solution for the future Finnish Air Force fighter fleet, being the only 5th Generation fighter priced similarly to 4th Generation aircraft.

To date, the F-35 has been chosen by 13 countries and is operational from 27 bases around the globe, with nine nations employing F-35s on their own territory. More than 630 F-35s are currently in service, with over 1,300 pilots and 10,380 technicians trained on this advanced aircraft.
