Swiss Government Receives Exciting F-35 Proposal!

On November 18, 2023, the U.S. government, in collaboration with Lockheed Martin, presented a comprehensive F-35 proposal to the Swiss government as part of Switzerland’s New Fighter Aircraft (NFA) competition.

This F-35 proposal encompasses a complete package that includes up to 40 F-35A aircraft, a customized sustainment solution designed to meet Swiss autonomy needs, and an extensive training program tailored for the Swiss Air Force.

Additionally, the proposal features an industrial outreach plan to provide Swiss industries with significant opportunities related to the F-35 program. If Switzerland selects the F-35 as its new fighter, this industrial collaboration will span various regions across the country. Swiss companies will have the chance to compete for direct production contracts for components used in F-35 aircraft, engage in sustainment projects aimed at strengthening the Swiss Air Force, and participate in cybersecurity initiatives related to the F-35.

The offering utilizes the F-35 Global Support Solution, enabling Switzerland to leverage economies of scale within the European F-35 ecosystem, thereby reducing sustainment costs for the Swiss Air Force. It includes a six-month supply of spare parts, ensuring the Swiss Air Force can maintain autonomous operational capabilities when required.

Lockheed Martin is also proposing the assembly of four F-35 aircraft in Switzerland, which will help Swiss industry gain vital experience in maintaining the F-35 airframe and understanding its advanced capabilities over the program’s lifespan.

“We are confident that our F-35 offer represents the most effective and economical choice for the Swiss NFA competition,” stated Greg Ulmer, Vice President and General Manager of the F-35 Program. “We provide the only fifth-generation fighter at the cost of a fourth-generation aircraft, ensuring Switzerland can protect its sovereignty for decades ahead.”

To date, the F-35 has gained selection from 13 nations and operates from 26 bases globally, with nine nations utilizing F-35s on their own soil. Over 585 F-35 aircraft are currently in service, with training programs completed for more than 1,190 pilots and 9,750 maintainers.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, Lockheed Martin stands as a leader in global security and aerospace, employing approximately 110,000 individuals worldwide. The company specializes in the research, development, integration, and sustainment of cutting-edge technology systems, products, and services.
