“First F-16 Takes Flight: Greenville Depot’s Milestone Delivery Celebration”
Lockheed Martin today declared that it has handed over the initial F-16 aircraft as part of the F-16 Sustainment Depot initiative back to the U.S. Air Force.
Lockheed Martin was initially chosen for the U.S. Air Force’s F-16 Sustainment Depot initiative in December 2020, and the first aircraft arrived in Greenville, South Carolina for servicing in spring 2021.
“This was the inaugural fighter sustainment project awarded to the facility, and with F-16 assembly also progressing well in Greenville, the site is now the worldwide hub for the F-16,” states Danya Trent, Lockheed Martin vice president of the F-16 Program.
The firm offers comprehensive lifecycle support to the warfighter, encompassing development, production, and sustainment to ensure operational readiness. Regarding the F-16, Lockheed Martin plans to recruit over 300 new positions by the conclusion of 2022 to bolster both F-16 sustainment and manufacturing. These new openings embody Lockheed Martin’s enduring commitment to fulfill our clients’ present and future demands, while also generating additional employment opportunities in the Greenville region.
Numerous roles are at the forefront of Lockheed Martin’s digital engineering initiatives – leveraging state-of-the-art technologies and automation to minimize costs, reduce turnaround time, and enhance product quality.
