Skyward Synergy: Lockheed Martin and Airbus Forge New Aerial Refueling Partnership

Strategic Partnership for Aerial Refuelling Solutions

Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) and Airbus are excited to announce a collaboration aimed at exploring innovative opportunities to meet the soaring demand for aerial refuelling among US defense customers.

The partnership aims to offer enhanced aerial refuelling services designed to address capacity shortfalls and meet the evolving requirements for the next generation of tankers. These advanced tankers will be equipped to operate effectively in today’s complex battle environments.

“Reliable and modernized aerial refuelling is essential for our customers to maintain global reach and strategic advantage,” stated Marillyn Hewson, Chairman, President, and CEO of Lockheed Martin. “By harnessing the innovation and expertise of both Airbus and Lockheed Martin, we are well positioned to deliver advanced refuelling solutions to the United States Air Force and allied nations, tackling 21st-century security challenges,”

Tom Enders, CEO of Airbus, added, “The US Air Force deserves the best aerial-refuelling technology and performance possible, and this outstanding partnership will provide just that.”

The partnership will utilize the Airbus A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport (A330 MRTT) as the cornerstone of their cooperative strategy. The collaboration will explore a wide range of service options, from meeting immediate air-refuelling needs with a fee-for-service model to designing next-generation tankers.

Fernando Alonso, Head of Military Aircraft at Airbus Defence and Space, remarked, “The A330 MRTT has been selected by numerous nations globally. It boasts a proven track record in live operations and has been highly praised by major air forces. We believe the synergy between Airbus’ tanker expertise and Lockheed Martin’s extensive presence in the US will provide effective solutions for current and future US military aerial refuelling demands.”

Lockheed Martin has a longstanding, successful history in systems integration, manufacturing, and MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) operations with large airlift and tanker aircraft. With Airbus’ specialized knowledge, this partnership is poised to respond effectively to future air refuelling needs.

Michele Evans, Executive Vice President of Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, concluded, “Airbus is a leader in the aerial refuelling sector, while Lockheed Martin is renowned for its cutting-edge defensive technologies and capabilities. This partnership represents a significant opportunity for both companies to combine our expertise in order to develop world-class solutions for critical military needs worldwide.”
