Lockheed Martin Secures $7 Million Contract to Upgrade Apache Day Sensors for the U.S. Army

Lockheed Martin Corp. has received a significant contract modification, valued at nearly $7 million, from the U.S. Department of Defense for the Apache helicopter, which includes advanced modernized day sensor assembly kits.

The project will take place in Orlando, Florida, with an expected completion date set for August 31, 2023.

According to Lockheed Martin, the Modernized Day Sensor Assembly (M-DSA) represents a crucial advancement in the ongoing modernization of the Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensor (M-TADS/PNVS) system, commonly referred to as Arrowhead.

The M-TADS turret integrates the targeting system, encompassing both day and night sensor technologies. The M-DSA includes upgraded components such as the Laser Rangefinder Designator, TV Sensor, and Laser Spot Tracker, some of which have their origins in the 1970s. The primary goal is to modernize the entire DSA system, enhancing its performance and addressing obsolescence, while also improving the M-TADS/PNVS’s capability to fully support the modern weaponry currently in production.
