Lockheed Martin Secures $183 Million Boost for HIMARS Expansion
Lockheed Martin Missile Fire Controls, a key division of Lockheed Martin, has announced a significant contract modification valued at $183 million for the production of M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS).
This contract modification was awarded by the U.S. Army Contracting Command at Redstone Arsenal and is a continuation of a previously established contract.
Operations will take place in Camden, Arizona, and Grand Prairie, Texas, with an expected completion date set for December 20, 2023. At the time of the award, over $183 million in Fiscal 2020 funding from the U.S. Marine Corps and Foreign Military Sales (specifically for Romania) was allocated.
The High Mobility Artillery Rocket System provides enhanced firepower on a wheeled chassis as the latest addition to the Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) platform. HIMARS is capable of carrying a six-pack of GMLRS rockets or a single TACMS missile on the Army’s Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV), accommodating the full range of MLRS munitions.
This lightweight and mobile launcher is designed for rapid deployment, transportable via C-130 and larger aircraft. The HIMARS system comprises a launcher loader module and a fire-control system mounted on a standard five-ton truck chassis. A specialized armored cab ensures enhanced protection for the three personnel operating the system.
According to Lockheed Martin, HIMARS stands out as the most advanced, cost-effective, and sustainable artillery solution available today.
