Collins Aerospace Powers DEFIANT X® with Innovative Seating and Perigon Tech from Lockheed Martin Sikorsky-Boeing

Lockheed Martin Sikorsky-Boeing has chosen Collins Aerospace to deliver all three seating systems and its Perigon™ computer for the DEFIANT X® advanced utility helicopter, a contender in the U.S. Army’s Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) initiative.

Collins will furnish the DEFIANT X helicopter with armored seats for the pilot, co-pilot, cabin crew, and troops. Each seating solution from Collins will be lightweight, ergonomically crafted for comfort, and rigorously evaluated to address or surpass the Army’s high crashworthiness standards. A seasoned global frontrunner in seating for civilian aviation applications, Collins has adapted its cutting-edge commercial technology to create unique rotary-wing military seating solutions aimed at significantly enhancing warfighter comfort and operational readiness.

“Our range of military seating is designed, developed, and manufactured to provide maximum value to our clients and to optimally support warfighter safety and comfort,” stated Cynthia Muklevicz, vice president of business development for Interiors at Collins Aerospace. “Collins’ rotary-wing military seating solutions present a generational leap over existing technology that we anticipate will considerably alleviate operator fatigue and boost mission efficiency and success.”

Alongside seating, Collins will also provide its Perigon computer for DEFIANT X. With a modular open systems architecture (MOSA) and the capability to deliver 20 times the processing power of Collins’ current flight control computers, Perigon will facilitate future flight control and vehicle management functionalities for next-generation aircraft.

“Perigon’s superior processing capabilities will enable it to amalgamate multiple DEFIANT X functions, including flight control, utility management, prognostic health monitoring, and advanced flight modes like autonomy,” commented Kim Kinsley, vice president and general manager of Environmental and Airframe Control Systems for Collins Aerospace. “By utilizing a single computer to manage numerous functions, Perigon will assist in minimizing the number of onboard computers, thereby decreasing weight, volume, and power consumption across the platform while enhancing overall performance.”
