Lockheed Martin Secures $928 Million Contract for Hypersonic Missile Development
On April 18, the U.S. Air Force awarded Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) an impressive $928 million contract to design a groundbreaking missile capable of exceeding five times the speed of sound, a critical advancement to counteract enemy defenses.
This indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract focuses on the development of the Hypersonic Conventional Strike Weapon (HCSW), marking the dawn of a new air-launched weapon system. Lockheed Martin will collaborate closely with the Air Force to finalize the system requirements defined in the initial task order.
This initiative is set as the first phase of a comprehensive development program, anticipated to transition through design, flight testing, initial production, and the eventual deployment of the weapon system, achieving early operational capability. The total contract ceiling through this phase remains at $928 million.
“Our objective is to ensure the rapid development and deployment of the HCSW system. This contract represents a significant first step towards realizing that objective,” expressed John Snyder, Vice President of Air Force Strategic Programs at Lockheed Martin. “We will leverage our design, development, production, integration, and test experts from across Lockheed Martin to achieve early operational capability, ensuring that our warfighters receive this critical system promptly. We take immense pride in leading this initiative.”
The talented HCSW team will primarily operate from Huntsville, Alabama, Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, and Orlando, Florida, with additional expertise sourced from Denver, Colorado, and Sunnyvale, California.
