Collins Aerospace and Boom Supersonic Forge Enhanced Partnership for Overture’s Key Aircraft Systems

Boom Supersonic, the enterprise crafting the globe’s swiftest airliner, fine-tuned for velocity, security, and eco-friendliness, proclaimed today at the Farnborough International Airshow a partnership with Collins Aerospace regarding the Overture initiative. Accommodating 65–80 travelers at double the pace of contemporary airliners and utilizing 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), Overture will soar at Mach 1.7 over water with a reach of 4,250 nautical miles.

Per the new collaboration between the two entities, Collins will aid Boom in assessing and advancing vital aircraft systems and components for Overture. Engineers from Collins and Boom will conduct aerodynamic evaluations to investigate Overture’s Ice Protection System, the mechanism that inhibits ice accumulation on the aircraft during flight. Boom will also partner with Collins to evaluate Air Data System frameworks that align with Overture’s operational performance and range prerequisites.

“We are excited to be extending our partnership with Collins to develop essential components for Overture,” stated Kathy Savitt, Boom’s President. “This agreement harnesses the profound expertise and capabilities of Collins as we gear up for Overture manufacturing, and together we will strive towards an aircraft that is rapid, secure, and environmentally sustainable.”

The enhanced collaborative effort with Collins builds upon several years of fruitful cooperation focused on advancing propulsion system effectiveness and reducing aircraft noise on Overture. Collins and Boom have joined forces to innovate inlet, nozzle, and exhaust system technologies to facilitate net-zero carbon operations for Overture.

“Collins is leveraging decades of knowledge to deliver critical technologies for Overture that will be fundamental in realizing eco-friendly supersonic travel for passengers,” remarked Colin Mahoney, president of Customer & Account Management at Collins Aerospace.

For the first time today, Boom presented Overture’s upgraded design, integrating multiple engineering breakthroughs in aerodynamics, noise mitigation, and performance at the Farnborough International Airshow. Boom further announced a collaboration with Northrop Grumman to produce a special mission version of Overture for government and military clientele. The inaugural Overture aircraft is scheduled for rollout in 2025, to fly in 2026, and to transport its first passengers by 2029.
