“Leonardo Partners with Telespazio Brasil to Launch Cutting-Edge Satellite Teleport in Maricá, Elevating Next-Gen Connectivity”

Leonardo, via its subsidiary Telespazio Brasil, along with the Maricà municipality, represented by Codemar (Companhia de Desenvolvimento de Maricá), have officially declared a partnership to construct a new satellite teleport aimed at telecommunications applications in the Maricá region (State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil).

Codemar will lease a significant parcel of land to Telespazio, which will devise and establish the telecommunication infrastructure necessary to accommodate one of the largest and most sophisticated Ground Segments for new Satellite Operators in Latin America.

The upcoming teleport will deliver telecommunications services for Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) satellites, in addition to low latency, extremely high-bandwidth solutions for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellations.

This modern facility is strategically positioned to support the escalating demand and stringent requirements created by the Oil & Gas industry in the region, as well as to capitalize on opportunities in other sectors such as government and maritime operations.

Maricá is making investments in state-of-the-art infrastructures with the goal of transforming into a new central hub for the Oil & Gas sector due to its advantageous location and to facilitate the industry’s expansion in Bacia de Santos, Brazil’s most significant oil exploration area. In line with the administration’s vision for a technology-focused development, Leonardo, through its subsidiary Leonardo International, and Codemar recently formed a joint venture, Leonardo&Codemar S.A. (49% Codemar and 51% Leonardo), which concentrates on security, resilience, critical infrastructure management, and innovative services.
