Rheinmetall Launches Groundbreaking Lynx Combat Support Vehicle, Proudly Designed and Built in Australia

In a groundbreaking initiative for Australia, Rheinmetall, the foremost provider of defense vehicles to the Australian Defence Force, has today introduced the Lynx Combat Support Vehicle (CSV) during a ceremony at the organization’s Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence (MILVEHCOE) in Redbank, Queensland.

Rheinmetall Managing Director, Gary Stewart, proclaimed that the Lynx CSV is the most advanced and proficient armored vehicle ever conceived and constructed in Australia, based on a variant of the Lynx Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV).

“The Lynx CSV was developed by Australian engineers and produced at MILVEHCOE using Australian steel and our extensive network of over 100 industry partners,” he stated.

“It is distinctly Australian, serving as a reliable ‘workhorse’ vehicle, even adopting the unique role of a utility vehicle,” he mentioned.

The Australia Made Campaign Limited (AMCL) has also chosen to grant the Made in Australia seal of approval to Rheinmetall and the Lynx Combat Support Vehicle, rendering it the sole genuinely Australian-designed and manufactured Combat Support Vehicle.

Mr. Stewart emphasized that the Lynx CSV offers remarkable versatility in how troops operate in the field, the types of equipment they are able to transport, and the combat support tasks they can execute.

“The Lynx CSV is a transformative innovation for military forces and will empower soldiers to undertake a variety of missions while fully safeguarded. With the CSV, troops can carry out recovery, repair, maneuver support, and logistics operations utilizing a vehicle similar to the existing Lynx IFV,” he articulated.

The similarities between the Lynx CSV and Lynx IFV provide efficiencies and ease of operation for armed services globally. Together, the two models enhance the Lynx family of vehicles, offering options for up to ten variants thanks to Lynx’s modular architecture.

Mr. Stewart noted that the Lynx CSV boasts additional onboard fuel capacity to facilitate refueling of other vehicles in the field; a roof-mounted crane capable of lifting over five tonnes, allowing it to assist other vehicles using the crane, convertible power pack; and excavation attachments like a clam shell bucket and rock breaker.

The modular remote weapon station can be equipped with an array of weapons and ammunition ranging from 7.62mm, 12.7mm to 40mm grenade.

“The Lynx CSV will be designated for export from Australia to allied military forces,” Mr. Stewart stated.

Rheinmetall has made a significant investment in Queensland to set up the Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence (MILVEHCOE) to enhance capabilities for the Australian Army. Currently, over 450 team members are present on-site to produce BOXER Combat Reconnaissance Vehicles and conduct final assembly of logistics trucks.

More than 100 Australian businesses bolster Rheinmetall’s local operations as part of the Australian industry network, employing thousands of Australians who are advancing a sovereign military vehicle sector with substantial export initiatives in progress.
