Damen Unveils the Game-Changing Multibuster 8020!

Damen is poised to unveil a revolutionary vessel category – the multifunctional Multibuster 8020. Boasting a distinct shallow draft and DP2 functionalities, the Damen Multibuster (DMB) 8020 is an adaptable ship, fitting for an extensive array of nearshore and offshore operations.

Scheduled for delivery in October, the Damen Multibuster 8020 is readily accessible from our shipyard located in the Middle East, Albwardy Damen.

The Damen Multibuster 8020, which features a minimum operational draft of merely 3 m, has been crafted by Damen’s subsidiary OSD-IMT with adaptability and usability in focus. This exceptional vessel also responds to the rising industry requirement for safety and comfort, incorporating spacious working zones and a high level of accommodation.

A versatile asset

Regardless of size, the Damen Multibuster grants marine contractors the advantage of possessing one asset, offering them both flexibility and productivity.

Showcasing a generous, 800 sq m open aft deck, the vessel’s entire beam is usable for executing tasks like welding, as it is devoid of deaeration systems and filling pipes. The reinforced deck also ensures it is appropriate for various equipment configurations.

It provides comfortable lodging for 60 individuals (including 14 crew members), making it perfect for project teams and wind farm specialists. And even though it remains quite compact, it offers ample easily accessible storage options.

The vessel features an active heave compensated crane, which possesses a short boom lifting capability of 65 tonnes and a maximum outreach of 30 m. Should further customization be necessary, the Damen Multibuster can be fitted with daughter craft, an A-frame, FiFi 2, an Anchor Handling tug winch, stern rollers, or a 4-point mooring setup.

Offshore energy sector

The offshore energy domain, encompassing renewables and oil & gas, represents just one of the primary sectors where the innovative vessel can be utilized. The hull is reinforced for beaching, making it ideal for cable installation, and it is also equipped for UXO clearance, project surveying phases, trenching, hose management, ROV deployment, and diving operations. With the incorporation of a crew access system, the Multibuster can also function as a Walk to Work vessel, facilitating construction support tasks offshore.

Humanitarian initiatives

Damen envisions a role for the DMB in humanitarian efforts and disaster relief operations. It could even serve as a military training ship. Damen has already primed the vessel for enhancement, with potential features including an additional deck for a helideck and hangar (capable of accommodating up to two helicopters), davits for launching RIBs/Interceptors, and ample space for containers and specialized mission equipment.

Dredging and subsea extraction

Moreover, this new vessel type is suitable for both dredging and subsea extraction applications, aiding the mother ship as required.
