Damen Naval Secures New Partnership with Dutch Supplier for Cutting-Edge Anti-Submarine Warfare Frigates
Damen Naval will collaborate with Hatenboer-Water on all freshwater systems aboard the four Anti-Submarine Warfare Frigates (ASWF) that Damen Naval is constructing for the Netherlands and Belgium. With this agreement, Damen Naval has once again secured a Dutch supplier for the esteemed ASWF initiative.
“Right from the outset, we have expressed our intention to engage as many firms from the Dutch maritime industry as feasible in our ventures,” states Damen Naval Project Director Joop Noordijk. “Securing safe and pure water on board is vital, and we eagerly anticipate our partnership with Hatenboer-Water.”
Damen Naval formalized the contract for the design and development of the ASWF in June 2023. These frigates will be suitable for various operations, although the primary focus will be on anti-submarine warfare. They will replace the existing Karel Doorman-class Multipurpose Frigates. With the retirement of these vessels looming, the Netherlands and Belgium have opted for a collaborative replacement program. Consequently, two frigates will be produced for the Royal Netherlands Navy and two for the Belgian Navy.

Based in Schiedam, Hatenboer-Water has been providing water supply systems to vessels worldwide since 1906, introducing the ‘Safe Water on Board’ concept that integrates water treatment and distribution installations with global support for management and maintenance. The company also delivers the water systems for the F126 frigates being constructed by Damen Naval for the German navy.

“From freshwater generators to pressure regulation and hot water generation, every facet will be meticulously crafted to adhere to the utmost standards of efficacy and dependability,” comments Guy Heijnen, Chief Commercial Officer of Hatenboer-Water. “This partnership not only reaffirms our dedication to delivering superior solutions for maritime defense but also emphasizes our shared goal of ensuring safety and efficiency at sea.”
The initial vessel is slated for delivery by Damen Naval in 2028.
