Damen’s latest Ultra Shallow Shoalbuster 3815 SD has accomplished successful sea trials and bollard pull assessments. The newly engineered vessel managed an impressive 18.6 tonnes of bollard pull while maintaining operational capability in extremely shallow waters. Notably, interior noise levels across all cabins did not exceed 53dB.
Damen designed the new Shoalbuster 3815 SD after comprehensive consultation with various workboat operators in the oil and gas, as well as dredging sectors, along with end users who charter such vessels. This research emphasized the necessity for a truly purpose-built vessel capable of functioning in ultra-shallow waters.
“Numerous projects globally function in ultra-shallow operational zones – particularly in the Arabian Gulf and the Caspian Sea,” states Jeroen van Woerkum, commercial manager at Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld. “We engineered this vessel to deliver genuine added value to these endeavors.”
Operating at 120cm
The outcomes from the sea trials and bollard assessments of the Shoalbuster 3815 SD last week in the Middle East unequivocally demonstrate the vessel’s utility. The total power output of 1,540 bhp channeled through four 1,000mm aft propellers generated 18.6 tonnes of bollard pull. The vessel features a working deck area of 185m2 and is outfitted with two bow thrusters to enhance maneuverability when required.
Perhaps the most remarkable result of the sea trials, however, is the ultra-shallow draft specifications. The Shoalbuster 3815 SD is capable of operations in water depths of at least 120cm.
In addition to operational effectiveness, Damen has meticulously considered onboard comfort. The maximum noise levels in the accommodations reach only 53dB. “For the workboat industry, which is predominantly defined by power and efficiency, such minimal noise levels are a rare luxury.”
The standard 250DWT vessel accommodations for 11 individuals comply with MLC regulations. Additional accommodations for a total of 17 individuals are available as an option.
Prepared for delivery
With the sea trials effectively concluded, the Shoalbuster 3815 SD will be available for delivery and operation by January 1st, 2020. “We are thrilled to present this state-of-the-art vessel to operators engaged in hose, anchor, buoy handling, towing, and support operations for the oil & gas sector and the dredging industry in ultra-shallow waters.”
The expansive working deck of 185m2 renders the Shoalbuster particularly adept at Single Buoy Mooring (SBM) maintenance tasks, SBM hose repairs, and provides ample space for containerized units intended for diving support operations.
