
HAL Secures 99 F404 Engines for Tejas Light Combat Jet Enhancement
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has procured F404 engines to energize the single-engine Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA). Priced at $716 million, this acquisition comprises 99 F404-GE-IN20 engines along with comprehensive support services.

The F404-GE-IN20 engine represents an advanced production variant of the F404-GE-F2J3, which is effectively powering India’s Light Combat Aircraft prototype. As the most powerful variant within the F404 lineup, the F404-GE-IN20 integrates GE’s latest high-temperature materials and innovations, along with a Full-Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) system for dependable power and superior performance characteristics.
