Bundeswehr’s GTK Boxer Vehicles Have Arrived: Deliveries Successfully Wrapped Up!

ARTEC GmbH, representing its parent companies Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and Rheinmetall, has formally delivered the final Boxer armoured transport vehicles (GTK) ordered thus far by the Bundeswehr to delegates of the Federal procurement agency (BAAINBw) and the Defence Ministry.

The agreement for the second batch, which was finalized in December 2015, encompassed 131 GTK Boxers and totaled EUR 478 million. All insights gained from modifications during the successful Afghanistan operation have been integrated into this A2 variant.

Despite the global pandemic, which sometimes considerably affected delivery schedules, the contractual timelines were adhered to, thanks to the constructive, practical, and trusting collaboration between the industry and the client.

In aggregate, the two parent corporations of ARTEC GmbH have supplied 405 Boxer vehicles to the Bundeswehr, including 72 in the ambulance configuration, 65 command units, and 256 infantry squad vehicles.

The combat enhancement commissioned by the Bundeswehr in 2017 mandates that all Boxer vehicles, including those from the initial batch, be upgraded to the A2 design specification.

Most recently, in February 2021, the relevant upgrade contract for a second batch of Boxer command units to the A2 standard was secured, ensuring that by 2024, the entire fleet of 65 German Boxer command vehicles will be available at the latest specifications.

Established in 1999, ARTEC GmbH operates as a joint enterprise between Krauss-Maffei Wegmann GmbH & Co. KG and Rheinmetall.

The company oversees series production and acts as the primary liaison for all export matters concerning the Boxer platform.
