“ESCRIBANO M&E Strengthens Footing in Peru with Cutting-Edge SENTINEL Systems for Navy Patrol Vessels”
The SENTINEL 2.0 and SENTINEL 30 systems from the Spanish firm ESCRIBANO M&E have successfully completed the SAT assessments in Peru conducted on the Peruvian Navy patrol vessels PPMM 208 BAP “Río Tumbes” and PPMM 209 “Río Locumba”, which are now active.
The SENTINEL 2.0 station incorporates Browning 12.70 mm caliber heavy machine guns, which are standard armaments for naval forces. This station, similar to the SENTINEL 30, features an infrared camera, a daytime camera, and a laser range finder (LRF), enabling the operator at the integrated console inside the vessel to detect, aim, and neutralize targets during both daylight and nighttime. Furthermore, the automatic target tracking functionality ensures that the weapon remains locked on target utilizing video feed from both cameras, resulting in immediate and lethal efficacy. The SENTINEL 30 station can also accommodate a 30mm cannon (MK44S Bushmaster II), which can be adapted to 40mm within the same system without any modifications. Both systems are managed remotely by a single operator, who remains securely inside the vessel, operating from a console.
Both solutions serve as “stand alone” options that can either function independently or be integrated with the combat, navigation, or data systems of the patrol vessel. It can also incorporate an electro-optical system for long-range detection and threat tracking, similar to the setups installed on the BAP UNION and BAP PISCO of the Peruvian Navy. In this context, the capabilities and firepower of the SENTINEL RWS would be enhanced by a next-generation OTEOS electro-optical system on the patrol vessels, improving their surveillance and observation missions.
Comprehensive Collaboration with Peru
ESCRIBANO M&E has had a long-standing presence in Peru, partnering with SIMA. This collaboration has led to the installation of various naval systems on Peruvian Navy vessels, such as the river patrol boats “CLAVERO” and “CASTILLA”, on the BAP TACNA, the training ship BAP UNION, and the multipurpose vessel BAP PISCO. Here, the SCAMO system (System of Control of Remote Stations by Optronic Means), one of the most advanced and innovative systems developed by ESCRIBANO M&E, was deployed. This system is equipped with four 12.7mm caliber stations, two 30mm caliber stations, and a stabilized surveillance system providing 360º vision (OTEOS). It features an integrated combat system allowing for the cohesive management of stations and cameras, which can be coordinated from a standalone console, as well as the management of each station.
Empowering the Spanish Navy with Domestic Technology
The Spanish Navy has SENTINEL 2.0 naval stations installed on its frigates, particularly on the LHD “Juan Carlos”, the flagship of the Navy, where four 12.70 mm mounts are set up. With their precision targeting, stabilization, and tracking systems, these solutions can greatly enhance accuracy and situational awareness while facilitating target detection, tracking, and neutralization missions.
The SENTINEL 30 will significantly bolster the Serviola class patrol vessels by enhancing their immediate response capabilities at all times (day and night) with a stabilized and precise defense system capable of delivering safe, intimidating fire during their operations.
The upcoming F110 frigates will also feature ESCRIBANO’s SENTINEL systems, providing the Navy with an unmatched advantage concerning logistical commonality, national technology, and maintenance, while ensuring the safety and integrity of the sole operator required for the system, who will always remain protected within.
