Exail Partners with Navantia to Revolutionize Navigation for Spanish S80 Submarines with Cutting-Edge WECDIS Technology
Saint Germain-En-Laye, France, 27/05/2024 – Exail, a prominent authority in maritime navigation, together with its distributor in Spain, GRAFINTA, S.A., has successfully secured a contract with Navantia to deliver its Gecdis-W Warship Electronic Chart Display and Information System (WECDIS) for the four Spanish S80 Plus-class submarines.
Engineered by Navantia for the Spanish Navy, the S80 Plus-class submarines are crafted with operational agility to maneuver discreetly and rapidly at elevated speeds, allowing them to accomplish missions involving potential threats. The incorporation of the Exail Gecdis-W system will significantly amplify the submarines’ capabilities, assisting the crew with electronic navigational charts. Certified by the IMO as ECDIS software and fully compliant with NATO’s STANAG guidelines, the Exail Gecdis-W system will function as a cooperative navigational asset for the Spanish Navy during maritime military operations.
“Exail and Grafinta are privileged to uphold the close collaboration with Navantia and lend our expertise to the Spanish S80 submarines,” remarked Alexandre Maia, Regional Sales Manager at Exail. “Aligned with the S80 submarines’ fundamental design objectives of stealth, endurance, and operational adaptability in distant and potentially hostile regions, our WECDIS system is poised to enhance the operational efficacy and safety in submarine navigation amidst challenging underwater terrains.”
This recent achievement reaffirms Exail’s preeminence in maritime navigation for Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems. Exail has indeed already been chosen to equip all the platforms of the French Navy, in addition to the naval forces of Latvia, India, Greece, UAE, and New Zealand.
