“Fincantieri Unveils Qatar’s Fourth Corvette, the Impressive ‘SEMAISMA'”

The handover of the corvette “Semaisma,” the fourth and final vessel of the Al Zubarah-class commissioned to Fincantieri by the Qatari Ministry of Defence under the national naval procurement initiative, transpired yesterday at the Muggiano (La Spezia) shipyard.

The ceremony saw the presence of numerous dignitaries, including Staff Major General (Sea) Abdullah Hassan Al-Sulaiti, Commander of Qatar Emiri Naval Forces, H.E. Khalid bin Yousef Al-Sada, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Italy, Major General Hassan Rashid Al Ali, Head of Qatar Armed Forces Projects, Staff Major General Hilal Al Muhannadi, Defense Attaché of the State of Qatar in Rome, Vice Admiral Salvatore Vitiello, Commanding Officer of the Italian Navy Logistic Command and Naval Equipment Inspector, along with Dario Deste, General Manager of the Naval Vessels Division at Fincantieri.

The Al Zubarah-class corvettes, engineered in accordance with RINAMIL regulations, are designed to be exceptionally versatile, capable of executing a variety of missions, ranging from surveillance operations with maritime rescue functions to serving as combat vessels. These ships will measure approximately 107 meters in length and 14.70 meters in breadth, equipped with a combined diesel and diesel propulsion system (CODAD), achieving a top speed of 28 knots. The vessels will be able to accommodate a crew of 112 personnel on board.
Additionally, the corvettes will have the capability to deploy high-speed crafts such as RHIB (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat) using side-mounted cranes or a launch ramp located at the stern. The flight deck and hangar are designed to support one NH90 helicopter, enhancing their operational capacity.
