Fincantieri Unveils Second Corvette for Qatar: A Maritime Milestone!

The handover of the corvette “Damsah”, the second vessel of the Al Zubarah-class, among four ordered to Fincantieri by the Qatari Ministry of Defence as part of the national naval procurement initiative, occurred today at the Muggiano (La Spezia) shipyard.

The event, conducted in a limited format and fully adhering to health and safety protocols, was attended by Brigadier General Abdulla Al Mazroey, Deputy Chief of the Qatar Navy and Commander of the Flottilla, Major General Staff Hilal Al Muhannadi, Defence Attaché of the State of Qatar in Rome, Rear Admiral Pierpaolo Ribuffo, Maritime Commander – North, along with Marco Acca, Deputy General Manager of the Naval Vessels Division at Fincantieri.

The Al Zubarah-class corvettes, crafted in accordance with RINAMIL standards, will offer exceptional versatility and will be capable of executing a wide range of missions, from maritime surveillance and rescue operations to engagements in combat. These vessels will measure approximately 107 meters in length, 14.70 meters in width, and will be powered by a combined diesel and diesel propulsion system (CODAD), achieving a maximum speed of 28 knots. Each unit will accommodate a crew of 112 personnel on board.

Moreover, the corvettes will feature the capability to deploy high-speed crafts such as RHIB (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat) via lateral cranes or a launching ramp positioned at the aft section. The flight deck and hangar will be adequately sized to accommodate one NH90 helicopter.
