U.S. Navy Dives into Innovation with $19 Million Boost for Advanced Virginia Payload Module Initiative by General Dynamics
General Dynamics Electric Boat has secured an $18.9 million contract modification for the continuous development of the Virginia Payload Module (VPM). Electric Boat functions as a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics.
The allocated finances will support the procurement of two VPM pre-production configurations to initiate the manufacturing process for the VPM payload tubes. The VPM will comprise four large-diameter payload tubes integrated into a newly engineered hull segment for Virginia-class submarines.
This modification raises the total value of the overall Virginia-class Lead Yard Services contract, initially awarded in 2010, to $1.46 billion.
