General Dynamics Electric Boat has received an $18.9 million contract amendment for the ongoing enhancement of the Virginia Payload Module (VPM). Electric Boat operates as a fully owned subsidiary of General Dynamics.
The allocated funds will assist in acquiring two VPM pre-production configurations to facilitate the initiation of manufacturing for the VPM payload tubes. The VPM will consist of four large-diameter payload tubes incorporated into a newly designed hull segment for Virginia-class submarines.
This amendment elevates the cumulative total of the overall Virginia-class Lead Yard Services contract, which was originally granted in 2010, to $1.46 billion.
